Wholesale access control distributor, Encon Electronics hosted a technical seminar with leading gate operator manufacturer, Viking Access Systems at their training facility in Hayward, Calif. on July 28th
Over fifty Encon dealers attended the hands-on workshop led by Viking chief engineer, Daniel Perez. He began the seminar by fielding issues from the group and then offering on the spot solutions. He wrote down notes to himself throughout to incorporate the feedback for future designs. According to Daniel, “We welcome suggestions and even complaints from the dealers because we build the operator for the dealer, not the end user….Your needs give us our direction. Our goal is to design an operator that is as easy to install and troubleshoot as any operator ever made,” Perez added.
During the introductory Q&A, Perez was unable to solve one issue but guaranteed that “I will not rest until I find the problem.” Based on the attendee feedback, his honest interaction was extremely appreciated and respected by the attendees.
“The lecturer was very knowledgeable and he was not afraid to say I don’t know, but I’ll find out,” noted Andrew Leighton from Los Gatos Iron Works of Los Gatos, Calif. Martin Mickow of Valley Automatic Gates in San Jose, Calif. agreed. “Daniel really knows his stuff. I was very impressed with how responsive Viking and Daniel are to the dealers’ problems and concerns. They truly listen!”
Perez then discussed installation and troubleshooting tips while covering Viking’s extensive gate operator line. "I liked all the insight on the systems but the most beneficial part was the troubleshooting help,” noted Alex Morette from ML Entry Gates in Shell Beach, Calif. Kevin Williams of Statcomm Inc. in Mountain View, Calif. agreed, “Daniel provided a lot of great information especially the troubleshooting techniques and installations tips. This portion was great for technicians like me.” Williams was also one of three raffle winners. He walked away with a GPS navigational system courtesy of Viking.
Next, Perez outlined the new products Viking has scheduled for release including the new R-6 residential swing gate operator. “The new version will not be able to be back driven. This adjustment will help get rid of wind issues with the operator. It should be available in the next month to month in a half,” Perez explained. He also created buzz for an upcoming trade show by announcing “Viking has a big surprise to unveil at FenceTech 2011.”
