By attaching directly to the gate support post, the SL-1000 eliminates the need for a concrete mounting pad with all the associated excavating and disturbing of adjacent landscaping. The UHMW nylon rack gear, which replaces the drive chain, attaches neatly to a channel mounted to the gate. This material is extremely durable and will last for years. The combination of the aluminum pinion gear on the operator and the nylon rack gear on the gate eliminates the rust stains, stretching, and adjustments associated with a chain. This design also produces a gate drive mechanism which is much quieter than chain drive models. The magnetic limit switches are activated by magnets attached directly to the gate, not a separate mechanism driven by the operator motor. This ensures that the switches never get out of adjustment and that the gate will stop at the same point every time.
Rotary Gate Systems, based in Pensacola, Fl. started design work on the SL-1000 and a swing gate version, the patented SW-1000 in 2002. Since then, close to 100 units have been installed on private homes, apartment complexes and condominium sites throughout the Florida coastal area and southern Alabama. The operators were designed specifically to cope with the heat and humidity prevalent in the southern coastal regions of the United States. All external and most internal parts are machined from aircraft grade 6061-T6 billet aluminum. The external parts are then finished with durable baked-on polyester powdercoating.
Rotary Gate Systems has recently partnered with Linear, LLC, a leader in the gate operator and access control industry to make use of their latest state of the art gate control, the APeX. This control unit features a very easy to use programming display to control every aspect of the gate movement. It features soft start / stop, separately programmable open and close obstruction sensing, on board loop detectors and a built in radio receiver. This combination of technology between the two companies has produced an operator which allows dealers to provide their customers with a product the industry has never seen before. The SL-1000 is ETL listed and complies with all applicable UL325 requirements.
Another trademark of the RGS organization is the unprecedented level of technical and dealer support. “After 15 years of being caught in the middle between customers who are paying for a quality product and manufacturers who are sometimes complacent about helping resolve problems, I’m determined to give our dealers all the help and support they need to make sure both of our businesses thrive. This operator has proven it will sell itself. We’re going to be there to make sure the dealers we work with have everything they need to get the sale and support the product once it is installed” said Mike.
With a background which includes 15 years in the military and commercial machining industries as well as another 15 years in the gate installation and service industry, Mike Jones worked closely with Larry Kilmer and other members of his organization to design the RGS line of gate operators to be the most dealer friendly units available. Both the SL-1000 (available now) and the SW-1000 swing gate version (available 3rd qtr. 2008) can be installed in half the time of conventional operators. That time savings translates into less field time on each job and more jobs completed per month.
RGS operators are sold through distributors only. To locate a distributor or for more information, contact Beverly Kilmer at 850-509-5486 or visit
