Rotary Operators Move Curved Gates Effortlessly

Rotary Gate Systems, Inc., Pensacola, Fl., introduced its SL-1000 rack and pinion slide gate operator at FenceTech 2008 in Las Vegas with a pair of curved cantilever slide gates. Since that time, many dealers have inquired about the feasibility of installing the operator on different types of curved gates in real world applications.

Gate Masters, Inc. in Ft. Lauderdale has completed the installation of a curved V-track gate using a RGS SL-1000. The layout of the driveway in relation to the roadway and the surrounding wall prevented the installation of swing gates or a straight slide gate. The gate had to match the curvature of the wall to prevent interference with the flow of traffic inside the property. This issue was easily solved by using the RGS operator.

The RGS operators use a UHMW high density nylon rack gear attached to a rigid backing on the gate. The rack gear can bend with the curvature of the gate,

thus allowing for both convex and concave gate designs. The rack gear extends no more than 2 inches from the gate frame so the appearance of the gate is never compromised.

Of course, the SL-1000r residential, SL-1000 commercial, and SL-1000i industrial operators all will work just as well on cantilever, enclosed track and truck cantilever and V-track gates for any normal straight installation. The operators all feature the full systems capable APeX controller from Linear/Osco as well as maintenance free double sealed bearings and corrosion resistant aluminum construction
